right now the weather is crazy in the volcanoe area and the forecast for tomorrow isn¨t much better, so mayby something exciting will have happened when the weather clears up...
alomost everyone in school drove to the area to see the eruption, but i stayed at home with my master thesis...and i saw no reason to go there when the weather was bad (i want good conditions and great pictures) and the eruption small (i want bigger)
the reason for the sudden cloud rising to 1 km height is not gases but melted snow (water) flowing into the hot magma and this is therefore steam.
the water level in the river also rose suddenly and temperature went from +1 to +7 in a very short time, but lowered quickly again.

tak, Bjarki, for the latest info - I have bookmarked the news website, it is better than the other sites I found. And no, I wouldn't have gone either!
The best lava photo op I saw was in Hawaii, 1959 or 1960: A cinder flow has covered several homes and a road - all is black and crusty and there stands, lonely, a small wooden gas station/garage. All that shows is the uppermost part of the building and a sign that says 'no smoking.'
or maybe not wood, it was painted white -
